Project Description
Release date: 2021
Role: UI/UX Designer
Prototyping is a powerful tool that validates your design choices with the intended end-users throughout the project.
As UI/UX Designer, we are used to hearing about prototyping and how valuable a tool it is in the industry. Especially since tools like Figma and InVision Studio have become commonplace in the industry. However, in big organizations, where work and knowledge are departmentalized, you can sometimes find that these tools have yet to impact the work and design process.
At MAN Truck and Bus, this was the case in the department I was working in. Various states of the concept were only conceptualized in pictures showing a best-case scenario. As you can imagine, the risk of finding out scenarios where this best-case would always apply is hard to come by in reality.
During downtime at the company, I would create smaller prototypes of parts of the system and animate them to create a more holistic image of the features. I would then present them to co-workers and managers, pointing out potential risks in the concept should they choose to continue with it. That was then discussed in concept meetings where more departments would be involved.
From that point on, I became solely responsible for creating and maintaining the prototypes from that point on. It was also then decided from that point that there should be conducted more user testing session with the prototypes to validate conceptual choices and check usability.
