Project Description

Release date: 2021
Role: UI/UX Designer

Creating a holistic system involves mapping out every essential feature throughout the platform. Each component must be thoughtfully designed with careful attention to layout, hierarchy, and user experience, ensuring that drivers have seamless access to all the information they need to perform their job.

The Challenge

As the project progressed, various interface elements required modifications to address change requests and unforeseen limitations. This involved developing new concepts from scratch—using the existing style guide and layout to maintain consistency—as well as updating existing ones.

The Process

I began by gathering all the relevant information needed to develop a new concept. In large companies, this process can be tedious, as multiple departments hold pieces of the necessary information, and it’s not always clear who is responsible for each part. Without proper guidance, there's a high risk of heading in the wrong direction. To start, I located existing specifications that supported conceptual cohesion with the rest of the system. I then compiled a list of requirements from my perspective and identified which department could provide each piece of information. After validating, adjusting, or correcting this list based on the feedback I received, I proceeded to develop the concept.

The first step was to map out all the potential states of the concept, identifying the elements present in each state and how they interacted. I then developed a wireframe layout incorporating these elements. It’s important to note that at that time, there was no design system to expedite the screen design process, and we primarily relied on Adobe Suite for content creation. With this preliminary work complete, I created high-fidelity versions of the various states to serve as a baseline for our concept discussions.

I included a "worst-case scenario" dummy element on every screen to serve as a discussion foundation, aiming to minimize subsequent changes. I soon discovered that most discussions were based on "best-case" expectations, which inevitably resulted in numerous modifications—both large and small—that increased overhead in adjusting layouts and elements to accommodate those scenarios.
