Project Description
Release date: 2021-2022
Role: UI/UX Designer
Prototyping is a powerful tool that validates your design choices with the intended end-users throughout the project.
As UI/UX designers, we're accustomed to hearing about prototyping and its significant value in our industry, especially since tools like Figma and InVision Studio have become widely adopted. However, in large organizations, where tasks and knowledge are often departmentalized, these modern tools sometimes have yet to fully influence the workflow and design processes.
This was precisely the situation I encountered while working at MAN Truck and Bus. Concepts were typically visualized through static images, primarily depicting ideal, best-case scenarios. Naturally, relying solely on such images carried the risk of overlooking realistic edge cases and problematic scenarios.
To address this, I used available downtime to create smaller, interactive prototypes of specific system components, animating them to better illustrate their functionality and potential challenges. These prototypes were then presented to colleagues and management, clearly highlighting possible risks and limitations. The insights gained from these demonstrations significantly enriched subsequent concept meetings, facilitating more informed discussions involving multiple departments.
From that point onward, I became solely responsible for creating and maintaining the prototypes. Additionally, we decided to conduct more user-testing sessions using these prototypes to validate conceptual choices and ensure usability.
